Petru Poni Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry, Romania
Valeria HARABAGIU, born in 1950 in Sighisoara, Romania, graduated polymer chemistry studies at “Gh. Asachi” Technical University in 1974 and received her PhD in 1992 from the same University. She was an engineer in a tire company and a silk processing company for three years and she was employed on a permanent position as a young researcher in “Petru Poni” Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry in 1979.
She leaded the Inorganic Polymer Department and presently holds the position of Deputy Director. For periods of time she held research positions at CEMEF, Sophia Antipolis, France, at Institute of Polymer Chemistry, Universite d’Evry Val d’Essone, France and at the Centre for Carbon and Polymeric Material, Zabrze, Poland working on block copolymers, selective modification of cyclodextrin, reductive coupling applied to the synthesis of polysilanes or on biomaterials.
Her research interests include silicon-based (co)polymers, conjugated polymers, polymeric nanomaterials, drug delivery systems, supramolecular chemistry; she published one book, more than 170 papers/book chapters, 2 patents and organized several scientific symposia. She was awarded with “Nicolae Teclu” 2004 award of the Romanian Academy, the 2006 prize of the Romanian Agency for Scientific Research and the 2009 award of the Romanian Chemical Society.
